The agency relied on a secret technology that seemingly blends science fiction with modern espionage to find the second American airman downed in Iran.
A futuristic tool, code-named “Ghost Murmur,” used long-range quantum magnetometry to hear the electromagnetic fingerprint of the soldier’s heartbeat from miles away.
The tool was instrumental in the high-stakes rescue of a weapons systems officer known as “Dude 44 Bravo.”
The airman had been missing for 36 hours after his F-15E Strike Eagle was downed Friday southwest of Isfahan.
