AWS unveiled on Monday a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) agents designed to dramatically reduce the time and cost of cloud migration projects.

AWS Professional Services Delivery Agent allows customers to initiate projects by uploading architectural diagrams or extracting requirements from meeting notes and documentation. The system automatically generates project proposals and statements of work that previously required weeks of manual effort, completing them in hours.

Once a project is launched, the delivery agent deploys specialized sub-agents to handle technical tasks including code generation, testing, and deployment. ProServe consultants supervise the process to ensure output aligns with customer requirements. AWS has deployed the agents across multiple client engagements.

For legacy system migrations, the delivery agent leverages AWS Transform, a service launched in May that automates the movement of COBOL mainframe programs, VMware workloads, and .NET applications to AWS infrastructure. The tool addresses one of migration’s thorniest challenges by automatically mapping application dependencies and generating code necessary to replace modules that cannot be transferred directly.

“This agent incorporates a knowledge base of learnings from thousands of migrations AWS ProServe has completed and automation capabilities from our professional services Cloud Migration Factory to accelerate project delivery,” Francessca Vasquez, vice president of AWS professional services and agentic AI, said in a statement.

The move positions AWS alongside its major competitors in leveraging AI for cloud migration.

Google recently revealed CogniPort, an agent automating its own migration to custom Axion processors that rewrites code and generates automated tests. Microsoft Corp. offers similar capabilities through GitHub Copilot, which assists companies in modernizing .NET applications for Azure.
