With Big Data being all the rage in IT, it’s no wonder there are a lot of call for data scientists within organizations. The problem is, what exactly does this entail? It’s an emergent enough space that no clear cut certification are guaranteed for any expected hire. Gina Rosenthal looks at a sample of recent postings for data scientist positions on LinkedIn. She tries to determine just what exactly organization want when they put out these postings.
Matthew Leib starts a four part series, looking into what it means to be a SysAdmin in the cloud native world of DevOps. No longer can each individual component of data center infrastructure be siloed off to their own domains. To deliver the agility that containers and microservices allow, a SysAdmin’s role fundamentally changes.

With other C2000 based systems having issues, it looks like Intel might be facing a major recall across it’s Atom SoC line. This would be bad enough in the consumer market but a critical error in the enterprise. Even though Cisco might not be strictly responsible for this, they’ll have to mend some fences in the face of this issue.
It seems a lot of companies are excited about the possibilities of whitebox networking. This applies not just to inside the data center, but outside as edge devices as well. I’ve never really considered that as a possibility. Kevin Myers outlines a bit of the history of whitebox networking, and what he’s seeing to convince him that they’re rapidly moving to the edge.
It’s easy to make some generalizations about the public cloud market. Amazon sits at the top, Microsoft comes in second with Azure, and number three is almost an afterthought. For the sake of argument, let’s say it’s Google. All three companies recently put out earnings, so how much money is the cloud making?
