In a dramatic sign of artificial intelligence’s (AI) rapid growth, Meta and OpenAI say they are encountering “significant capacity constraints” in their supply of graphic processing units (GPUs), according to a note from Morgan Stanley analysts at the company’s Tech, Media & Telecom 2025 event.
Meta Platforms has launched a trial deployment of its first in-house chip for training artificial intelligence (AI) models in an effort to reduce the massive costs associated with AI infrastructure. Developed in cooperation with TSMC, Meta’s custom silicon is part of a larger industry push to develop alternatives to NVIDIA’s GPUs, which have been a dominant—but pricey—building block of advanced AI deployments.
Qualcomm Technologies has inked an agreement to acquire IoT developer Edge Impulse which has built a no-code platform to enable developers to create machine learning applications for IoT devices. The acquisition is expected to support Qualcomm’s recently debuted Dragonwing line of AI-powered IoT and networking solutions. The terms of the deal are unannounced.
